Success Story

In 2002, The American Colloid Bentonite Company ceased operations at its site in Upton, Wyoming. Countless hours by many people and organizations working in concert were spent in order to demolish the plant, clean up the site, and convert the site to what it is today…..The Upton Logistics Center, a Premier Transload Facility, designated by the BNSF Railway Company and operated by Tiger Transfer, LLC.

Tiger Transfer, LLC presently enjoys over 40,000 feet of privately owned track. Tiger Transfer, LLC has its own switch engine and crew to accept railcars from BNSF and distributes those cars to the customers within the park and then releases those cars back to the BNSF. Tiger Transfer, LLC offers daily service to those customers. BNSF’s double track mainline runs right through the middle of the Upton Logistics Center and has a mainline electronic switch on each end of the park.

Tiger Transfer, LLC also has a transloading crew that gives the customer the option to have their product transloaded from rail to truck or can have their own trained employees do that if they would prefer. There are three truck scales located in the park, with Tiger owning one of them.   Products transloaded at the Upton Logistics Center are just about anything moved by rail such as oil, frac sand, pipe, crane mats, all the way to military equipment and anything in between.

A very strong relationship, over the years, has been developed between Tiger Transfer, LLC and the BNSF Railway. Because of the Upton Logistics Center’s location in the middle of the Powder River Basin, the velocity of the unit trains passing by can be enhanced by dropping the “other than coal” freight into the Upton Logistics Center to be handled by Tiger Transfer, LLC and a “bullet train” from Edgemont can bring new cars for the day and pick up yesterday’s cars from Tiger and get out of the way of the next unit train going by. Presently there are roughly 75 unit trains of coal going by daily.
