Christmas Tree Shortage? Not in Wyoming!

When it comes to Christmas, having a tree adorned with decorations in the living room is a tradition we can all enjoy.

"We try to keep our prices the same,” said Galles Greenhouse Manager Shelby Andress. “Sometimes, the closer we get to Christmas, we'll lower our prices just to get rid of some more trees."

Every household wants the perfect tree, and we can either get trees pre-cut from places like Galles Greenhouse, or obtain a permit from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to cut our own in designated areas.

"In 2008, there was an economic downturn. At that time, for some reason, the industrial tree plantations weren't able to plant or didn't plant a large number of trees,” mentioned Brady Owens of BLM. “Those trees are unavailable because they were never planted."

And if you want to cut your own tree, you don't have to worry about getting one that shouldn't be cut.

"There’s a number of species that you can choose from, whenever you are cutting a tree on public land; from Lodge Pole Pine to Douglas Fir, Subalpine Fir, Ponderosa Pine," said Owens.

Of course, there's always the alternative of getting a fake tree and eliminating the dilemma of where to get next year's tree, or the dreaded pine needles.
