Cheyenne Chamber offers statewide tools to prepare for military project

The largest economic development investment in the history of the state of Wyoming is coming, and businesses in the Cheyenne area need to prepare themselves to take advantage of it now, according to the Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce. 

The U.S. Congress recently invested $90 billion into the modernization of the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) weapon system, which was installed in the 1950s. These land-based missiles are maintained in three U.S. locations, including F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne. It’s too early to say exactly how much of that $90 billion will end up flowing through Cheyenne, since the details of the project and its rollout on the federal level haven’t been finalized yet. 

Nationally, the project will be led by either Boeing or Northrop Grumman, which will contract with local companies to carry out the work on the ground -- everything from tearing down and rebuilding the massive underground concrete silos to telecommunication, mechanical systems and HVAC upgrades -- likely beginning around 2020. In addition, there will be a need for supporting vendors for services like security and logistics.
